How to clip a Twitch stream into TikToks

Updated · Crowdcut

Find the moments worth posting (chat spikes and the parts your viewers clipped are the best signals), cut each one into a short self-contained clip, reframe it to vertical 9:16 with the facecam on top and gameplay below, then add word-by-word captions and a hook before you post. You can do every step by hand in an editor, or paste the VOD link into Crowdcut, which finds, cuts, reframes and captions the moments and sends the ones you approve to your TikTok drafts.

Before you start: rights and timing

Clip your own stream, a channel that has cleared you, or campaign footage that allows it. Then move quickly: Twitch deletes past broadcasts automatically after a set window, about a week for most channels and longer for Affiliates and Partners. Clip the VOD (or save it as a highlight) before that window closes.

Step 1: Find the moments

By hand, that means scrubbing the VOD, watching chat replay for bursts, and checking the Clips tab for what viewers already clipped. It works, but a four-hour stream is four hours of footage to search.

Crowdcut reads the stream's chat replay and marks windows where chat suddenly moved faster than its own recent pace, then checks loudness (shouting, laughter, game stings) and the transcript to pick the moments with a payoff. On a connected live channel it also watches for several viewers clipping the same moment.

Step 2: Cut and reframe to vertical

TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Reels are vertical, so a 16:9 stream needs reframing to 9:16 (1080×1920). For gaming streams the usual layout stacks the facecam on top and zoomed gameplay below. Crowdcut's Gaming Stack style finds the camera and does this automatically; if it guesses wrong, drag the boxes and the clip re-renders.

Keep each clip to one moment: setup, payoff, out. Crowdcut cuts clips between 8 and 90 seconds, about 30 by default.

Step 3: Add captions and a hook

Burn in captions so the clip works with the sound off; word-by-word highlighting makes them easy to follow. Put a short hook at the top that tells people why to keep watching. Write it fresh for each clip: posting near-identical videos is a common reason accounts get limited, so Crowdcut flags hooks that start the same way as your recent ones.

Step 4: Post

In Crowdcut, approved clips go to your connected TikTok account's drafts, now or on a schedule. For YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels you download the clip with its caption and tags. YouTube accepts Shorts up to three minutes long, so longer moments still fit there.

Questions

Can I clip someone else's Twitch stream?

Only with permission: your own channel, a streamer who has cleared you, or a clipping campaign whose footage allows it.

How long should a TikTok clip from a stream be?

Long enough to land the moment and no longer. Crowdcut cuts clips between 8 and 90 seconds, about 30 by default, and you can trim any of them in review.

Does Crowdcut work on Twitch VODs and clips?

Yes. Paste a VOD or clip link, or connect the channel so new streams are watched while you're live.

Will anything post without me?

No. Every clip waits in review until you approve it.

Can I try it before paying?

Yes. The free demo on the home page makes two clips from a link you paste, with no sign-up; it needs an email to send them. For a stream longer than 30 minutes it samples the liveliest 30 minutes.
