Crowdcut vs. hiring a clipper

Updated · Crowdcut

Hire a clipper when you want a person's judgment on every edit and you can pay for their hours. Use Crowdcut when you want a steady volume of clips at a fixed monthly price and are happy to spend a few minutes approving them: the Clipper plan is $29 a month for 40 clips, about $0.73 a clip. Many streamers do both, letting Crowdcut find and cut the moments and paying an editor to polish the best ones.

What each one costs

Crowdcut is a flat monthly price for a set number of clips:

PlanPriceClips a monthPer clip
Clipper$29/month40 clipsabout $0.73
Creator$79/month100 clipsabout $0.79
Starter$149/month250 clipsabout $0.60
Growth$399/month750 clipsabout $0.53

The first month is 50% off and includes 50% more clips. Cancel anytime.

A hired clipper or editor costs whatever their time costs. Upwork says video editors on its platform typically charge $6 to $25 an hour (checked October 28, 2026), and experienced editors charge more. As an illustration only: at $20 an hour, an editor who spends 30 minutes finding, cutting and captioning a clip costs about $10 a clip. Your real number depends on the editor and how much searching each clip takes.

When hiring a clipper makes more sense

  • You want custom edits: memes, zooms, sound design and in-jokes that need a person who knows your community.
  • You need long-form edits such as YouTube videos or compilations, not only short clips.
  • You'd rather hand off the whole job, including choosing and posting, and never look at a review queue.

When Crowdcut makes more sense

  • You stream often and want clips from every stream, not only the ones someone has time to watch.
  • You want a predictable monthly cost instead of hours.
  • You're a clipper yourself and want to post more clips across your accounts.
  • You still want the final say: nothing posts until you approve it.

Using both

A common setup is Crowdcut for the first pass and a person for the finish. Crowdcut finds the moments and cuts them; your editor fixes the hooks, adds custom touches to the best few, and approves. Growth includes three team seats with roles, so an editor can work in the same studio.

Questions

Is Crowdcut cheaper than hiring a clipper?

Usually per clip: the Clipper plan works out to about $0.73 a clip. A hired clip costs the editor's hourly rate times the time it takes, so it varies from editor to editor.

Does Crowdcut replace an editor?

Not for everything. It does the searching, cutting, reframing and captioning; a person still writes or approves the hook and decides what posts. Custom and long-form editing still needs an editor.

Can my editor work inside Crowdcut?

Yes. Growth includes three team seats with roles, so an editor can cut and post and a reviewer can approve.

What counts as a clip?

A new clip reaching your review queue. Edits and re-renders of the same clip are free.

Is there a contract?

No. Plans are monthly and you can cancel anytime in Settings; you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
